Footage of Tom Brady criticising Wayne Rooney after meeting him for the first time has gone viral on social media. The seven-time Super Bowl winner became a minority owner of Birmingham City in 2023 and has since been a prominent figure at the club as they spent their way out of League One back to the Championship last season.

Their recent promotion follows a dismal 2023/24 campaign in which they had started well but made several poor decisions which led to a drop from the play-off spots to relegation, with one of those decisions being to replace John Eustace with English icon Rooney. And now, in the wake of the 'Built in Birmingham' documentary on Amazon, Brady's true feelings on the appointment at the time have been brought to light.

In a clip that has surfaced since the premiere of the new Amazon docu-series, Brady's first meeting with Rooney after he was selected at Eustace's replacement at St Andrews has done the rounds. The pair can be seen interacting with one another, as the former Manchester United and Everton star asks Brady if he is going to come to the team meeting that is about to be held, with Brady saying that he would love to but is wary of being a distraction. Rooney then says that he will sit down with Brady privately to go through his plans moving forward, not showing much in the way of assertiveness while doing so.

The footage then cuts to Rooney holding a team meeting where he is discussing the importance of stepping in as defenders in order to make things difficult for the attackers. Brady can be seen in the meeting, with the next scene being him in a car pondering the decision to hire their new coach.

"I'm a little worried about our head coach's work ethic," Brady tells business manager Ben Rawitz, who responds by stating that Rooney "comes across as lackadaisical." Brady then follows up by adding: "I don't know, I don't have great instincts on that."

GIVEMESPORT Key Statistic: Rooney won just two of his 15 games in charge of Birmingham.

Brady would later be seen addressing Rooney directly, telling the Englishman: "What's the difference between [American football] and soccer? Nothing. I treated practice like it was the Super Bowl. Put pressure on them, make them run for everything."

Rooney's tenure at Birmingham would last three months before he was sacked and replaced by Tony Mowbray. Brady would later reflect in the documentary that he had been told to not make wholesale changes when entering the club, advice he admitted to regretting ignoring in the wake of Rooney's failed stint.
