FACT CHECK: No deal between June Mar Fajardo, Golden State Warriors

Claim: Basketball legend June Mar Fajardo will bring his dominance to the Bay Area after signing a three-year contract with the National Basketball Association (NBA) team Golden State Warriors (GSW).

Why fact-check this: The Facebook post was made on July 22, two days after Fajardo won his 12th Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Best Player of the Conference award.

The post reads, "Breaking News. June Mar Fajardo Sign a Contract Golden State Warrior." It includes a graphic with the GSW team logo and a photo of Fajardo wearing a GSW jersey. The graphic lists the basketball player's achievements.

Rappler also found at least five Facebook posts that reposted the same claim.

The facts: On a video uploaded on July 20 by One Sports, Fajardo reacted to a viral meme claiming that he is part of the projected GSW lineup for the 2025-2026 season, saying, "Nadamay pa ako (I just got entangled [in this meme])."

There are no public announcements on the Warriors' social media page or credible reports from news outlets about the alleged deal.

Fajardo, PBA, and Gilas: On July 20, Fajardo received a record-extending 12th Best Player of the Conference award, as he dominated the 2025 PBA Philippine Cup. He also led the San Miguel Beermen to a championship win in Game 6 of the best-of-seven finals against the TNT Tropang 5G, scoring 24 points and 12 rebounds.

After the PBA championship, Fajardo is set to join the Gilas Pilipinas training in preparation for the 2025 FIBA Asia Cup campaign.
