D'Tigress head coach Rena Wakama is relishing the challenge of Saturday's semi-final clash against Senegal at the 2025 Women's AfroBasket tournament.
The reigning champions secured a dominant 83-47 victory over Cameroon in Thursday night's quarter-final matchup at the Palais Des Sports de Treichville in Abidjan, extending their remarkable unbeaten run at the tournament to 27 consecutive games.
Saturday's semi-final promises to be a dramatic encounter, as Nigeria will face off against their former head coach Otis Hughley, who now leads the Senegalese national team.
Speaking after the emphatic win over Cameroon, Wakama emphasized her team's focus and ambition:
"Saturday is going to be a great game, and for some, it will certainly be emotional -- that's the nature of basketball. But we understand our mission here. We won't let anything derail us. As I've said, it's going to be an emotional and very physical game."
D'Tigress are aiming to clinch a historic fifth straight Women's AfroBasket title in Côte d'Ivoire.
Senegal advanced to the semi-finals with a hard-fought 66-60 win over hosts Côte d'Ivoire. The winner of the Nigeria-Senegal showdown will face either Mali or South Sudan in the final.
