ALBANY, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) -- A wider range of tourist-focused businesses in New York state can now sell alcohol under a new amendment to the state liquor law.

The New York State Liquor Authority announced updated guidance on Sept. 24, expanding the types of businesses that are eligible to apply for liquor licenses.

Under the new rules, qualifying businesses include: pool halls, axe throwing venues, racket sports, virtual reality arcades, laser tag arenas, go-kart tracks, batting cages, climbing gyms, darts lounges, board game cafes, shuffleboard bars, escape rooms, mini-golf courses, comedy clubs, art galleries, paint-and-sip studios, cooking class studios, pottery workshops, and other places.

That is, as long as they still follow all other state and local laws on selling alcohol.

You can view the updated rule, adopted on Sept. 18, online here. The measure is part of a state government effort to encourage tourism by updating older laws.
