WITH the Edinburgh Festival Fringe kicking off this weekend, here are a few events to help you escape the crowds.

Location: National Mining Museum Scotland, Lady Victoria Colliery, Newtongrange, Midlothian, EH22 4QN

Tomorrow, the National Mining Museum Scotland is hosting a family fun day which advertises activities, entertainment, history and fun.

It says that the event forms part of celebrations for the 130 anniversary of the Lady Victoria Colliery, home to the mining museum, which first opened back in 1895.

Families will be able to explore the museum on the day, with pony rides, a bouncy castle, a live puppet and magic show, football, darts, Victorian crafts, music and more on also offer.

Location: Leith Links, Links Gardens, Leith, Edinburgh, EH6 7QR

With the Fringe festival officially kicking off this weekend, take a moment away to try a relaxed drop-in yoga class, and spend time reconnecting with nature.

Kuluna Yoga is hosting a mixed-level class for those interested in doing some yoga in the fresh air, helping to "start the weekend well".

Organisers advise anyone interested to bring a mat and layers.

Foodies Festival returns to Edinburgh this weekend, ahead of visiting Glasgow, Oxford and Bath later in August.

Claiming to be "the UK's biggest celebration of food, drink and music", the festival offers street food from all across the world, live music - including performances from Scouting for Girls and The Wanted, and live cooking demos from professional chefs.

Fans of Love Island in Edinburgh will be able to watch the final on the big screen next week at Irish bar Malones in Leith.

Join the pub's Love Island viewing party to see where your favourite couple places and who ends up taking home the cash prize.

Malones says it has limited spaces available and has advised customers to quote "Love Island" in their booking notes when requesting a table.
