Bears DT Grady Jarrett had perfect response to Ben Johnson's practice comments

Early this week when addressing the team's poor start, Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson called out the players for their poor practice habits, saying they don't meet the standards of a "championship-caliber" team.

The comments served as an eye-opener and reality check for the Bears, who have started the season 0-2, with both losses coming in embarrassing fashion. That includes blowing a double-digit fourth quarter lead to the Minnesota Vikings, and then being blown out by the Detroit Lions the following week.

Veteran defensive tackle Grady Jarrett was asked about Johnson's comments, and he put it on the players to answer the call. Understanding that they have not met expectations both on game day and on the practice field, Jarrett told reporters on Thursday that it's on the players to get things right.

"As a coach, you always want to challenge us to be better," Jarrett said, via CHGO. "We always want to put our best foot forward every time we take the field, whether that's in the game or in practice. Up to this point, we haven't won a game, but at the end of day, we're trending in the right direction to get where we need to do. He's our head coach, he's our leader, and if he said it wasn't good enough, then we had to answer the call. I thought we put in two really good days, and that's the exciting part. We can't wait to get out there and play this weekend."

Hearing a message being delivered from the head coach is one thing, but for the Bears to show they understood the message, they'll have to turn things around quickly. The fanbase and organization have been without winning football for years, and with all the optimism that followed with Johnson's arrival, this is not the start anyone was looking for with this team.
