It's never too early for kids to learn how to cook or bake, but the process can be tougher than anticipated. Following these top tips will ensure that cooking with your kids is safe, fun, and well worth the mess.

Sausage hash

We often did breakfast for supper at our house. This sausage hash makes a good main dish for breakfast or a quick supper on a busy night.

1 lb. pork sausage1 medium onion, chopped2 medium carrots, grated or finely chopped4 c. shredded frozen potatoes½ t. salt¼ t. ground black pepper

In a large skillet, brown sausage over medium heat. Add onion and carrots and cook until tender. Add potatoes and seasonings.

Reduce heat, cook and stir until nicely browned and heated through.

Pancake syrup

I always have made pancake syrup just like my mom made. My son was surprised at the thickness of purchased pancake syrup. If you don't have maple flavoring, the vanilla still makes a tasty syrup.
