■ The Road to Freedom Started Here," part of the Museum of Culpeper History Lecture Series, will be held at 6:30 p.m. tonight: "During Virginia's struggle for independence in 1775, Virginia's Third Convention established 16 Virginia Military Districts, including the Culpeper District (Orange, Culpeper, and Fauquier). Culpeper's District quickly formed the Culpeper Regular Rifle Company and Minute Battalion in the Fall of 1775, becoming the only fully manned combined Regular Rifle Company and Minute Battalion in Virginia, according to a museum release.

■ "Culpeper's quick actions in Virginia's time of need, more than any other portion of Virginia, helped liberate Virginia from British rule by 1776, thus aiding in saving the Revolution. This presentation focuses on the important leadership within the Culpeper District, which defined the Culpeper District as "The First to Organize, First to Fight, and First to Win."

■ Playin' in the Park starting at 5 p.m. on Thursday, July 3, at Booster Park, next to the Orange County Airport. Admission is free, donations will be accepted by OCHS Football for parking. Entertainment begins at 6 p.m. Enjoy live music by the Yurasits Family and Dave Goodrich, Touch-A-Truck, food vendors, and more during this family friendly event. Fireworks will take place at dark. Attendees are welcome and encouraged to bring picnics, blankets, and lawn chairs. No alcohol, pets must be on-leash.

■ Public Readings of the Declaration of Independence will be held at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on July 4 outside the Hugh Mercer Apothecary Shop in Fredericksburg, museum tours available with paid admission. Living historians will read this historic document from the steps in front of this 18th-century building in a moving experience patriots won't want to miss!
