Liverpool have had an official bid for Newcastle United star Alexander Isak turned down, according to reports - with the Reds aiming to bolster their ranks with a move for the Premier League superstar.

Isak's 23 goals in the top-flight last season saw Isak become one of the leading strikers in the world, with his goals ending their trophy drought via a League Cup win over Arne Slot's side in the final back in March, as well as firing them to a fifth-placed finish in the league to secure Champions League football for next season.

However, despite the Merseyside outfit signing Eintracht Frankfurt star Hugo Ekitike for their attacking ranks, Isak rocked world football by announcing his intentions to leave - opening the door for Liverpool to make a bid for his services.

And with that in mind, the report by David Ornstein on X (formerly Twitter) states that Newcastle have rejected an official bid from Liverpool for the Swedish star. Their initial approach earlier in the window upon Isak's intentions being made was informal, but now the Reds have ramped up the heat with an official offer, given Isak has signalled his intentions to leave.

The Magpies have suggested a new deal to their talisman, with a release clause being inserted for next summer, and senior teammates have pushed him to stay - though the Sweden international wants the move.

Liverpool could look to move Darwin Nunez on after failing to nail down the starting role spearheading the Reds' side, and Isak could come in after they sold Luis Diaz to Bayern Munich earlier in the week, securing vital funds.

Esteemed journalist, Fabrizio Romano, further added to news of a bid by stating that the offer was worth £120million plus add-ons, which would have been a Premier League record had Newcastle accepted.
