ESPN ranks former Ohio State stars C.J. Stroud, Justin Fields in its fantasy QB rankings

It's almost time for the great game of American football once again, and with that, it means we'll be able to watch the college game and at the game's highest level, the NFL. And if we're talking NFL, for many, that means it's also time to shuck aside household chores and other life responsibilities to obsess over fantasy football again.

There are sure to be many fantasy football drafts either having already taken place or soon to be, so we thought we'd help you out just a little bit if you wanted to keep track of where some of the former Ohio State football players are ranked when it comes to the "worldwide leader," ESPN.

If you've followed the NFL over the last few years, you no doubt know that there's really only two former Ohio State quarterbacks who expect to be starters this year and worth drafting, and that of course is Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud and Jets new starter through free agency, Justin Fields.

But where does ESPN see the value between the two? Stroud had a fantastic rookie season and was gobbled up by most deeper fantasy leagues last year, but then he had a bit of a sophomore slump this past year, mainly because of some issues with Houston's offense that caused him to have to shoulder a lot of the load.

Fields, on the other hand, wasn't much of a play last year because he backed up Russell Wilson in Pittsburgh, but he did enough in spelling the former All-Pro when he was injured to convince the Jets to sign him to a deal to be the starter in the Big Apple this season, and that means something.

In fact, Fields is actually rated higher in fantasy value than Stroud when it comes to what ESPN thinks. Fields is ranked as the No. 13 quarterback, while Stroud (the more proven of the two) checks in at No. 18. So what does that mean for you? You can take the upside and potential of what Fields could be this year, or you can be safe and go with Stroud if you fantasy league is deep enough.

On the other hand, if you only have a dozen or fewer teams in your league, maybe you should keep an eye on how things start and make a play as a backup option based on how they look. You are safer and more likely to pick proven guys like Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen, and Patrick Mahomes.
