Fernando Santos thanks Azerbaijan following contract termination

As previously reported, AFFA has terminated the contract with Fernando Santos, APA reports.

The Portuguese specialist expressed gratitude to both the AFFA leadership and the people of Azerbaijan in an interview with the local media: "I thank the AFFA President for the respect and personal attention shown to me. I am also grateful to the people of Azerbaijan for their hospitality and care during this period. The main task assigned to me by the Azerbaijan Football Federation in June 2024 was to rebuild the foundations of the country's football in terms of technical and infrastructure aspects, develop competition systems and academic training, and to field a competitive team for the qualification stage of the 2028 European Championship. In September 2024, I presented a broad plan similar to the projects I prepared at the federations I previously worked with, but adapted accordingly. I hope this project will be beneficial for AFFA, will encourage necessary investments, and create conditions for nurturing football talents. I wish you all success."
