Ghana continues to hold fond memories of one of its most beloved football icons, Manuel Junior Agogo.

On what would have been his 46th birthday, the nation once again paused to honour the life and legacy of a man who brought joy to millions through football.

Agogo passed away in London in 2019, just a few weeks after celebrating his 40th birthday.

His death followed years of battling the aftermath of a stroke he suffered in 2015. Though official reports did not directly cite the cause, it is widely believed that complications from the stroke ultimately led to his passing, according to Goal.

Since 2015, he had been undergoing rehabilitation and medical care.

Despite the heartbreak of his early death, Agogo's memory lives on, especially for his performances in the national jersey.

That tournament turned him into a household name. His commanding displays and key goals lifted the Black Stars and thrilled supporters across the country.

The most unforgettable of his three goals was the one that sunk Nigeria in the quarter-finals, a moment that sparked wild celebrations.

In total, Agogo netted 12 goals in 27 appearances for the Black Stars, according to data from Transfermarkt.

To mark his posthumous 46th birthday on August 1, 2025, sports journalist Owuraku Ampofo shared a video montage of Agogo's performances at the 2008 AFCON.

The compilation stirred strong emotions on social media, prompting fans to relive the striker's finest moments in Ghana colours.

YEN.com.gh gathered some of the heartfelt responses on X (formerly Twitter):

"The man who made me love playing as ST growing up as a kid 🕊️"

The former Nottingham Forest forward may no longer be with us, but his impact remains etched in Ghana's football story.

His dedication to the national team, his charisma on the pitch, and the pride with which he wore the Black Stars jersey continue to inspire.

As the years roll by, his name will still be mentioned with reverence. He was more than just a footballer; he was a symbol of joy and national pride.

In an earlier report by YEN.com.gh, it was shared that former Inter Allies midfielder Gabriel Ahmed had sadly passed away in Accra following a brief illness.

The Ghanaian player enjoyed success in Ethiopia, notably lifting the 2012/13 league title with Dedebit FC.

Following the news of his death, heartfelt tributes have poured in from both the Ghanaian and Ethiopian football communities.
