Insider Sparks Jets Trade Rumors After Coach Connection Comments

ESPN's Rich Cimini sparked some trade rumors with his comments about Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Jakobi Meyers, saying he is a "name to watch."

"One receiver who might be available is Jakobi Meyers, who reportedly wants the Las Vegas Raiders to trade him. Jets passing game coordinator Scott Turner, a Raiders assistant the previous two seasons, spoke glowingly of Meyers last December: 'I tell people all the time, he's one of my favorite players that I've ever coached,'" Cimini revealed in a column posted on Sunday, August 31.

NFL Insider Dianna Russini of The Athletic revealed earlier this offseason that the Jets had been exploring the veteran trade market for a wide receiver.

Meyers requested a trade from the Raiders ahead of the 2025 season due to a contract dispute. When that trade request became public, Russini mentioned the Jets in response to those rumors as a team continuing to scour the trade market.

On "Jets Final Drive", NFL Insider Connor Hughes of SNY revealed what he believes will be the trade package required to acquire Meyers.

"Meyers is a very good player. I don't think that would be cheap. So if you're going to trade for him, you're probably looking at parting with a second-round pick," Hughes explained.

"Jakobi is really interesting to me. If it's a second-round pick, then I don't think you can justify that," Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic said on "Jets Final Drive." "He is very productive, and I think he would fit really well with Garrett [Wilson]. He'd be a sure-handed guy in this offense."

Rosenblatt speculated that Meyers' trade value could be a second or third round pick.

"I don't think he is going to cost $30 million per year, but if you have to turn around and pay him $20 million per year. That would be $50 million per year [total] to two wide receivers," Rosenblatt said.

That annual salary would place him No. 24 among the highest-paid wide receivers in football, per Over The Cap.

Earlier this offseason, the Jets extended Garrett Wilson on a record-breaking deal. That $32.5 million annual salary is the fifth-highest at the WR position, per OTC.
