The narrative around new Stoke City signing Maksym Talovierov is clear for all to see - and the Ukraine international has bought in from the off.
The Potters confirmed the 6ft 4ins centre back as their second signing of the transfer window, with sporting director Jon Walters hailing the Ukraine international as a 'crucial and integral' piece of business.
Talovierov has signed a three-year deal from Plymouth Argyle and has promised to bring many of the no-nonsense traits that made him such a quick favourite at Home Park.
Talovierov confirmed his arrival with an indomitable display in the FA Cup win over Liverpool - and continued to lead from the back as Argyle fought against relegation.
Those battling qualities have been quickly focused upon in the club's social media output with Talovierov saying: "They say Stoke is tough, cold nights, hard tackles, no fear. I didn't come for comfort, I came for the fight. Let's get to work."
And speaking to the club website the former LASK defender revealed his delight at signing and his determination to fulfil his billing - adding steel to what at times was a callow team last season.
"I feel incredibly happy to be here and wearing a Stoke City jersey," he said.
"I always dreamed of playing in England, and the Championship is a tough but special league.
"The intensity of the football is very high, with competitive teams, and I know how big and ambitious a club this is.
"I have come here to work hard and to show our supporters what I can do on the pitch.
"I'm looking forward to meeting them in a full stadium because it is noise from fans that gives me energy and can give the whole team a real boost."
