SIDNEY - The annual Night of Hope Walk for Cancer is returning to Legion Park on August 8, 2025 marking a quarter century of community support in the fight against cancer. The gathering begins at 5:30 p.m. with opening ceremonies, followed by the cherished survivor's lap at 6 p.m. Families and friends will spend the evening together walking around the pond, enjoying a free‑will donation barbecue and taking part in festivities designed for all ages.

Sidney's Night of Hope began back in 2000 when a small group met in the office of Bob Goodwin to lay the foundation for a community event aimed at supporting locals facing cancer. Over the years the event has grown into a tradition, offering financial help to patients and honoring survivors and those who have been lost. From its humble start many years ago the walk has become a pillar of compassion and local pride and this year's 25th anniversary is a milestone that reflects that legacy of caring and connection.

Participants will find something for everyone. Alongside the walk and barbecue there will be over fifty items available in a silent auction and a playful Chair‑ity Auction featuring ten decorated chairs up for bids. Among the highlights are an autographed Rex Burkhead Nebraska football helmet and a Lainey Wilson cowboy hat autographed by the singer herself. For those attending in person all auctions and general donations will accept credit cards and online contributions may be made anytime through nightofhope.com.

Children can enjoy games, while the local Danz dance team will perform during the evening. Raffle prizes will add extra excitement and there is a traditional mix of lighthearted fun and heartfelt meaning throughout the park.

Money raised supports cancer patients across Cheyenne County helping with needs such as gas cards for travel to treatment and other financial relief. Past events have drawn hundreds from Sidney and the region, bringing neighbors together in remembrance, hope and community spirit.

This year's theme is Supporting the Fight for 25 Years. It captures the spirit of what the Night of Hope has always been-a family‑centered, volunteer‑driven evening where lives are honored, courage is uplifted and hope is renewed on the banks of Sidney's Legion Park pond.
