The Wirral club are aiming for a big improvement in League Two following their 20th-place finish, in the 2024/25 campaign.

Crosby acknowledges his Tranmere side will face a Colchester team managed by experienced duo Danny and Nicky Cowley but is aiming to secure all three points, at the JobServe Community Stadium.

Crosby told Tranmere Rovers FC: "Saturday's game is when the business really starts.

"Colchester have a really experienced managerial duo who have done some really good work at other clubs and I'm sure from where they've finished off last season, they'll be looking to try and build on that and continue to challenge, at the top end of the table.

"We have to go there to win - that's what we have to go there to do.

"The game is about winning, it's about finding a way to win.

"Some days, we'll be really good and everyone will say 'what a great performance' and some days, we'll get the points when we probably don't deserve to, so you've got to try and find that balance.

"I'm a big one on mentality and will power and physicality and organisation and set plays.

"We have to find all of those things on a regular basis to even compete in League Two because if you don't, I think you get found out."

Tranmere have made several new signings this summer and are looking to have a much-improved campaign.

"I'm sure we'll have hundreds going down to Colchester and I can guarantee that the players will represent them and the football club with real pride and we will compete in every single game," added Crosby, who was appointed as Tranmere's permanent boss in May following a successful caretaker spell.

"We'll run, we'll run hard and we want to change around the last few years' narrative, in terms of the club dropping down League Two and where we've finished.

"We want to try and change that around.

"It's the first game and it's going to be small steps going forward with this group but we've got ambitions for the season and let's see where it takes us."
