A teenager has been stabbed to death in a horrific knife attack at a football complex.

Emergency services raced to the incident in a car park at the Powerleague football complex in Bury at 9pm on Friday. Paramedics attended and a 19-year-old boy was found with several stab wounds.

He sadly died a short time later. Greater Manchester Police (GMP) confirmed they are treating the incident as murder.

Inquiries are ongoing.

Crime scene specialists were seen within the complex taking photographs as part of the investigation on Saturday.

Forensic officers could be seen scouring the area with multiple cordons put in place.

As reported in the Manchester Evening News, a spokesperson for GMP said: "The victim sustained several stab wounds and died later from his injuries.

"No arrests have been made as our Major Incident Team continues to investigate the events that led up to this tragic incident."

Detective Chief Inspector John Charlton, from GMP's Major Incident Team, said: "Firstly, our thoughts are with the victim's family and friends after this tragic and upsetting incident - our specially trained officers are supporting them at this difficult time.

"This incident will have shocked the community and distressed anyone who witness it, but we believe this was a targeted attack with no wider threat.

"We have several scenes in place with the investigation ongoing in order to identify and apprehend the offenders responsible."
